2015 Legislative Priorities

Our 2015 Focus

View a presentation that details our legislative priorities for 2015 (originally presented December 2014).

  • Funding for a comprehensive dental benefit for pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS.  Good prenatal oral health improves the health of both mother and child, and decreases the chances of babies being born prematurely.  Dental benefit funding was included in the state's final budget.
  • Extension of Federal SCHIP funding, which supports Virginia's FAMIS program.  FAMIS provides affordable, comprehensive dental, medical and mental health coverage to 104,000 children and 4,600 pregnant women in Virginia.  Congress did extend SCHIP funding through 2017.

Our Impact

During the 2015 legislative session, we successfully advocated to ensure that funding for dental benefits for pregnant women enrolled in Medicaid and FAMIS was included in the state's final budget, which effectively gives over 20,000 pregnant women the opportunity to access to comprehensive dental services through Medicaid and FAMIS MOMS.  Learn more about this dental benefit
