Oral Health and Diabetes - A Plan for Integrated Care

Medicaid doesn't cover the preventive care that could help many diabetics keep their teeth -- and help their diabetes, too. Through a generous grant from the Richmond Memorial Health Foundation, working with the Daily Planet in Richmond, we're pioneering treatment plans for homeless diabetics.

We're talking to caregivers and patients to assess their needs and challenges, devising plans to overcome those challenges, and creating procedures to track outcomes so we can refine treatment.

We don't know how many homeless diabetics could have benefited from basic dental health over the years. But our program is a start. Learn more about oral health and diabetes.

We're striving to bring preventive dental care to all Virginians.
