Helen Ragazzi, MD, FAAP, has been a practicing pediatrician since 1994, and she currently serves as the Medical Director for Virginia Premier, a Medicaid managed care organization. Helen has held several leadership roles since moving to Virginia in 1999. While on faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, she served as Director of the pediatric residents’ Continuity Clinic and Director of Care Connection for Children, Virginia’s Title V program for children with special health care needs. She subsequently led an asthma-related quality improvement program through CARMA (Controlling Asthma in the Richmond Metropolitan Area) and was a previous grantee of the CDC’s Controlling Asthma in American Cities Project, where she directed a multifaceted, champion-led quality improvement initiative with pediatricians in the Richmond area. She has continued to spread this program in an adapted format to physicians across the state through IMPACT (Improving Asthma Care and Treatment). As such, she has established relationships with many of the pediatric practices in the Richmond-metro area and other locales in Virginia. Helen is a member of the Central Virginia Asthma Coalition, where she served as its Chair from 2006 to 2007, and she is also the Virginia AAP Medical Home Chapter Champion for asthma. She serves on the CHIPRA (Children Health Insurance Program) Advisory Committee and is Chair of the VA Chapter of the AAP’s Legislative Committee.
